DOUGHERTY, Barbara

BARBARA DOUGHERTY

“Bobbie”

Barbara Marie, “Bobbie”, Dougherty, 90, passed away peacefully at Heartfields Assisted Living of Frederick MD, July 24, 2014.

Bobbie was born on February 5, 1924 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Ralph and Edna Dant. She was the beloved wife of Daniel J. Dougherty, who passed away February 28, 1994.

She was the center of a warm and loving family. Her love and guidance was her greatest devotion in life and her most profound gift to us all. She was a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer, helping with Meals on Wheels, home visits to shut-ins, and took great joy in spending time helping those less fortunate than herself.

Bobbie was active and engaged her entire life: she loved interior decorating, had her real estate license, and loved music. She had clear and firm principles yet was tolerant and forgiving; she got along with everyone but had a close circle of devoted friends. She was caring and affectionate and at the same time had an inner strength that made her a role model for all of us.

She is survived by her son Daniel Dougherty and his wife Denise Darrigrand, her son Thomas Dougherty and his wife Roberta, her son Joseph Dougherty and his wife Donna and her daughter Laura Dougherty; grandchildren Joseph Dougherty, Michael Dougherty, Mara Dougherty, Carolyn Dougherty, Nicole Kline, Christine Tuozzo, great-grandchildren Charles DeBose’, Eastyn Kline, and Brayden Apanavage. In addition she is survived by her nieces Nicky Noah, Linda Smargiassi, Patricia Gil-Borges, and nephews Richard Dant and James Warfield. She was predeceased by her sisters Anna, Pabby, and Patty and her brother Ralph.

A Catholic funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at our Lady of Grace church, 15661 Norbeck Boulevard, Silver Spring, MD with Monsignor Essex presiding. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bobbie’s name to the Maryland chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
